MMT Course

 

Semester I

Masters in Media Technology is for the people working in the media field and willing to advance their career position in the desired field. The first semester of the program deals with principles of mass communication, the oldest media constitutes and books to create exemplary insights into the current media industry. It elaborates more on the propagandas and agendas used by Media Experts to bring changes in the media field and society. While principles of reporting and editing deal with identifying the process for editing news, and broadcasting, the laws and ethics ensure that sensitivity and governance is maintained in the journalism and mass industry.

The Lekhan Kala explores and maps the understanding of Nepali language, journalism in Nepal and procedures to design a news article while imparting knowledge of grammar and writing style in Nepali News. This is a theory and practical course. Similarly Art of writing assigns and develops critical reading, analysis and explores various forms or writing to equip students with workplace writing (formal) and social media writings (informal). In order to develop the understanding of media communication technologies, computer systems and database management to emerge students to technological aspect of Media, we have Application in Media course.

Semester II

We begin the second semester of MIT with Media management, where you explore the principles of media and management with market planning and execution of articulated idea to obtain desired outcome. This aspect focuses on proposal and grant writing, copyright laws, regulations and budget planning for pre/ post production activities essential in the media hubs and public relation enterprises. Marketing Communications focuses on indulging students with branding and marketing communication concepts and implementation in the society to gain audience acceptance and increase the traffic. It also imparts knowledge on marketing communication for social and behavioral change in the society.

The communication studies such as Development Communication, Interactive Communication and International Communication deals with how media plays a development role in the society, communication in development, strategies to get targeted developmental results, and developing interpersonal skills to get the required raw data or information for news reporting and broadcasting. This subject also deals with understanding the scope of mass media in global scenarios, challenges of international communication and emerging technologies and application that could assist an individual to win over his/her competitor.

Semester III

Now we come to best part of MIT in Stephen Institute of Media Technology. The best part is you can now select among the three emphasis options available to you. The options are:

a. Radio Broadcasting

This emphasis focuses on providing all the essentials a graduate needs to understand the field of radio broadcasting. The Evolution of Broadcasting Media deals with historical perspective of radio technology, innovation and aspects of development. It also provides students with an understanding of broadcasting history and how it empowered a nation to make a radical change in its policies and powers struggles. The students get a chance to delve deeper into the operations, functions and need of radio broadcasting in the global scenarios. Further radio program production techniques polish the skills of students to master the audio mixers, studio acoustic, portable digital sound recording devices and DAWS.

Media Research deals with exploring the theories, models and applied techniques in the realm of media advances towards research projects.

b) Television Broadcasting

This emphasis focuses on providing all the essentials a graduate needs to understand the field of television broadcasting. The history of broadcasting is explored to understand the development of TV broadcasting till the present date. It also helps students to learn more on concepts of types of technologies and imaging, which polishes their content writing, script writing, production techniques, directing and editing skills while simultaneously giving them greater control in television studios and media hubs. With courses on techniques of television broadcasting we equip students with the understanding of writing styles, commercial announcements, interview writing techniques and other writings through our writing for broadcasting media.

Media Research deals with exploring the theories, models and applied techniques in the realm of media advances towards research projects.

c) Print Journalism

This emphasis focuses on providing all the essentials a graduate needs to understand the field of print journalism. Students get to equip themselves with understanding of print technologies and explore the traditional methods of printing as well. The business trends, its impact in society and types of printing are also dealt with. Further through Print production technique student get to learn more about the media and visual compositions: layout, design and elements of print journalism. Evolution and history of the print media is explored with learning new skills to news management, writing and styles.

Media Research deals with exploring the theories, models and applied techniques in the realm of media advances towards research projects.

Semester IV

With Media Literacy program, students explore the critical aspect of awareness of messages conveyed through news and broadcasting while learning more about their audiences and managing consent. The students are encouraged to write a thesis for on the topic of their desire related to Media Industry synthesizing and integrating the learning experiences acquired in MIT courses. The details regarding the thesis can be found in the syllabus.

In the final semester students are encouraged to do an internship or continue their full time job in order to fulfill their practical exposure to the media industry. Additionally, students prepare production of a project under faculty supervision to integrate their learning experiences in Media courses and exhibit their skills.
